August 18 Day 13

Today was a wonderful day on the Huruma site!  There was a lot of celebration in the air today.  When we arrived the folks were planning a dedication for the building.  Now remember, we thought we would not finish and that no more supplies would arrive.

Thurs.1Low and behold the metal arrived and before we left we saw the first sheet of new metal go onto the second story front side.  But wait there’s more… This day saw some wonderful things happen.  Of course we got to say good bye to our “Fundi” the local builder who worked with us.  He will continue the work to the buildings full completion and we will follow up Monday before we head home.  We gave him some new tools that he can use in his work and thanked him greatly for all he did.  He was very appreciative and Joel even got his Kenya phone number in case there is work in the future.  A wonderful relationship seed was planted through Joel’s work with him.  We left the preschool with some of our tools as well for future use and Hellen and the folks from Kurura Chapel itemized them so they can be loaned out for community use.

IMG_4675We also got to say goodbye to many of the children although we will be back on site Monday morning to see the work.  Many of them don’t know we are coming back and we will only stay a short while to wrap things up.  They were sad to see us go, but they never stopped smiling, never stopped holding on, and never stopped loving on us- which is the greatest payment we could receive. Another great thing was the dedication of the building.  We had a meal together with about 250 villagers, 200 of which were children.  We ate in the new downstairs classroom and the crowd flowed outside into the courtyard.  The food was great, the crowds was better.  We got to hear from some of the villagers about how they would use the building and we got to share words of encouragement with them.  Even a local politician stopped by to thank us for the work.

It seems that this is a case of the Lord turning our sorrow into dancing, our mourning into joy.  We are so thankful to be here and thankful that you have trusted us and prayed for us and given us this wonderful work to do.  Thank you, you are a part of the blessing as well!

Philippians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer

and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
