“Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for Joy and I will give thanks for him in song.” Psa. 28:6-7

Today was so full of those little things that continually remind you how much God has His arms around the people He loves…..the world He sent His son to die for. In the morning He showed Himself in the sharing of devotions by the HEART Lodge Staff. We joined in and were blessed to experience their genuine love one for another and for the women and children that He has asked them to care for. It was a testimony of them obediently caring for the poorest of the poor in the Kibera Slum.

After a time of getting ourselves organized for the next three days of VBS we were able to go to the Huruma Nursery school in the afternoon so that we could meet with the teachers and just give a few hugs. There is no such thing as a “few hugs” from the Huruma kids. They jump into your arms and ready to receive every hug and give back with smiles and laughs. Every child is touched and hugged. As Arlene sat on a step a little girl came right up to her and put her arm around her neck and said; “I love you SO MUCH”. Wow! It doesn’t get better than that.

The kids were all brought together to sing a couple of little songs and then prayed before they were sent on their way out the big gate, down the red dirt road to their little metal abodes. Huruma is becoming more and more closed in by rusted metal lean-tos as more people move into what space they can find.

We met with the teachers as we shared our plans for the next few days and they shared their appreciation for what God is doing in this little school. It can’t be done without their dedication and love for the kids.

Today was a special day for Shelley as she celebrated her 49th birthday getting hugged by just about every kid over and over. Who would not feel it was a special day. We attempted to buy her a birthday cake but none was to be had as there were no cakes at the market. We did find ice cream. To all our surprise the cook at the lodge made a beautiful one layer chocolate cake that was still warm and so yummy. Apparently, God had that planned all along.

Yes, it was a HAPPY DAY.
