Day 5 – Amusement Park & Maasai Market

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." — Galatians 6:10

Today was a day everyone had been looking forward to! We took the graduating Grade 6 students to the amusement park at Two Rivers Mall. Three teachers joined our team for the adventure, making it a special day of celebration for these incredible students. For many of them, this was their very first visit to an amusement park.

Before we left, I reminded our team that there might be a few students who got sick on the rides, so it would be wise to give everyone a little extra space… just in case!

On the drive to Two Rivers Mall, we passed another Nairobi community called Githogoro. Along the way, we also spotted our very first zebra of the trip—which absolutely made my day! I just love zebras.

Thankfully, only a couple of students felt a little queasy after the rides, and nothing serious happened. We are so grateful to the Grade 6 sponsors who have faithfully supported these students throughout the years. As they prepare to move on to junior school, we pray many of you will consider continuing your sponsorship and walking alongside them in this next chapter of their education.

The students had an unforgettable time experiencing all the rides. The Ferris wheel quickly became a favorite for many, especially these two excited young ladies! Caroline and Hope Quincy were all smiles throughout the day.

There was also one ride that some of our team members agreed was... let's just say... a little too thrilling! The students, however, absolutely loved it!

Another favorite was the log flume ride. The students even wore ponchos to stay dry—or at least mostly dry!

After a full morning of rides and laughter, we enjoyed lunch together. Everyone was treated to chicken, chips (French fries), and a soda. Then Heather Gehrett decided every child deserved an extra treat, so she bought fairy floss—what we know as cotton candy—for everyone. Judging by the smiles, it was definitely a hit!

After saying goodbye to the students, our team headed to the Maasai Market to shop for souvenirs before stopping at the grocery store. We purchased food supplies for the 15 families we would be visiting the following day.

A special thank you to Heather Hagner for preparing the family biographies and organizing questions to help guide our conversations. Since many members of our team are visiting homes for the first time, her preparation has been incredibly helpful.

As we prepare for tomorrow, we ask for your prayers. Visiting the homes of our students is often one of the most emotional parts of the trip. While the living conditions can be heartbreaking, these visits also remind families that they are seen, loved, and never forgotten. Our prayer is that each family would be encouraged by our visit and know that God is with them through every hardship they face.

Thank you for continuing to pray for our team and for the families of Huruma HOPE School. We are grateful to be the hands and feet of Jesus alongside you.
