Bittersweet Goodbyes
Day 9
Sadness doesn’t even begin to describe what the team felt today. It was the last day of Vacation Bible School at Huruma Hope School — a day filled with laughter, love, and a few tears.
The morning began with joyful singing, dancing, and one final round of Bible skits. Afterward came craft time — always a favorite!
Suzan, Greg, and Mike worked with the 4th–6th graders to create beautiful prayer journals they could take home.
Kylie and Shelley helped the PP1–PP2 and 1st–3rd graders decorate picture frames with their photos inside — the perfect keepsake from an unforgettable week.
After lunch, the school came together for a talent show that left everyone smiling from ear to ear! Students from every grade sang, danced, recited poems, sculpted clay models, and showed off their amazing God-given talents. The Huruma Team even joined in on the fun — dancing to “YMCA,” and Mike blessed everyone by singing Amazing Love.
To wrap up the day, the team handed out bags of chips (or crisps, as they’re called in Kenya) and juice to every student — a special treat made possible by the generous offerings from the children of NACC Sunday School. Then came the hardest part: the goodbyes. The team hugged and prayed over the incredible teachers — truly the heart of Huruma Hope School — thanking them for their unwavering love, dedication, and faithfulness. Saying goodbye to the students was just as emotional. There were hugs, tears, and so much love exchanged as everyone said their heartfelt “see you later" but not "goodbye."
Every person who comes to Huruma arrives with a heart ready to serve — but leaves with a heart that’s been served through the deep relationships built with the students and teachers. Helping was expected; the life-changing bonds were a beautiful surprise.
Please keep Kylie and Greg in your prayers as they prepare to travel back to the U.S., and continue praying for Suzan, Shelley, and Mike as they remain in Kenya to continue serving and supporting the ministry of Huruma.
God has been so faithful — and even in the tears, His joy remains.
