Day 1 – Arrival in Nairobi

Our adventure officially began at Portland International Airport (PDX). After many months of planning and preparing, it was finally time to begin our journey to Kenya. Doesn't this look like a great group?

One of the highlights of our layover in New York was meeting "Harry 2," a zebra-looking Airedale Terrier who quickly became a favorite with the team!

After a long journey, we arrived in Nairobi around 10:45 a.m. Once we made it through customs, we headed to Heart Lodge, arriving around 1:00 p.m. After nearly 40 hours of travel, everyone was more than ready for a hot shower, a toothbrush, and a little time to freshen up.

There wasn't much time to rest, though! We unpacked and organized more than 500 pounds of supplies that had traveled with us for Huruma HOPE School. Everything had to be sorted, repacked, and prepared for the days ahead.

Once everything was organized, we walked next door to Bridgeways Mall to pick up a few miscellaneous supplies we needed for the week.

Dinner was served at 6:30 p.m., and by 7:30, everyone was happily tucked into bed. After an unforgettable day of travel, we drifted off to sleep, excited to finally meet the students at Huruma HOPE School the next morning.
